Offering Hope Through Research

Clinical research helps find new ways to treat cancer. Clinical research is an integral part of Comprehensive Cancer Centers’ approach toward treating patients with advanced therapies that may not yet be widely available.

Advancing clinical research is a critical component in Comprehensive’s efforts to expand treatment options for patients with all types of cancer. Research studies offer specific advantages for patients with cancer types. All new therapies must be evaluated through standardized clinical research processes, with greater numbers of participants accelerating emerging anti-cancer therapies that can then be brought to market.

Not only does clinical research offer possibilities to patients whose options might be limited, the efforts lead to new doors being opened for others who may be diagnosed with cancer. Clinical research provides patients with high-quality cancer care, and the opportunity to take an active role in treatment plans, while helping others by improving cancer treatment for all patients.

The National Cancer Institute cites the importance of clinical research studies as a way to help physicians improve health and cancer care. Each study looks to find better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

So what are the benefits of being part of clinical research at Comprehensive Cancer Centers?

Access to New Treatments – Getting new drugs or therapies approved for widespread commercial use can be a lengthy process. There are different factors that can make trials a long process, but they are critically important. The foundation of research is the new drug or therapy going through several trial phases before they are open to everyone. Becoming part of clinical research studies can provide quicker access to these therapies, which could potentially be better than current treatment options.

In-depth Monitoring and Testing –

Every clinical research study is monitored by a team specifically assigned to each individual trial. When testing new drugs or treatments, patients are carefully monitored for potential side effects. Extra testing and attention to detail is important to patients and researchers. Patients are thoroughly protected during trials, and if at any point they experience negative side effects, they may withdraw from the research study.

New Information to Help Others

– In addition to possibly finding better or more effective treatments, the information collected during your trial provides valuable information about cancer. This information helps researchers better understand different cancer types and can possibly save lives in the future.

Ongoing Clinical Research Studies

Comprehensive Cancer Centers participates in nearly 200 clinical research studies each year, which presents patients with unique access to many of the most advanced cancer treatment options available. The practice currently has active research ongoing for many of the following cancers:

  • Breast Cancers

Comprehensive and the Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP)

Comprehensive Cancer Centers’ clinical research efforts extend far beyond the practice’s Southern Nevada clinics. The practice also works with the Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP), which was established by the National Cancer Institute in 1983. Through this program, community physicians, like those at Comprehensive, work with scientists conducting NCI-supported clinical trials. Comprehensive is affiliated with Nevada Cancer Research Foundation, which is a CCOP, enabling Comprehensive’s oncologists to bring the latest cancer procedures and treatments to the practice’s patients.

The US Oncology Network

Comprehensive Cancer Centers physicians are also part of The US Oncology Network, one of the nation’s largest networks of community-based oncology physicians dedicated to advancing cancer care in America. The service provider offers more than 1,000 physicians nationwide who share in the development of clinical research; public policy initiatives and innovative cancer care advancements.

Nevada Cancer Research Foundation

Comprehensive Cancer Centers also works with Nevada Cancer Research Foundation, a non-profit, research organization dedicated to promoting high quality, state-of-the-art cancer treatment, symptom management, cancer control, prevention, quality of life and biology studies in Nevada.

UCLA TRIO-US and Pharmaceutical Companies

Comprehensive Cancer Centers also partners with UCLA TRIO-US, which is dedicated to advancing translational cancer research by bringing forward innovative and targeted therapeutic concepts into the clinical trial setting.  The practice has also been sought out by leading pharmaceutical companies to open and offer groundbreaking research to its patients.
