Lights FC and Comprehensive Cancer Centers partnered to provide free match tickets to all local healthcare workers for the event.

Comprehensive Cancer Centers teamed up with Las Vegas Lights FC recently to host a #KickCancer match vs. Miami FC at Cashman Field. The event was the culmination of a season-long education campaign that both organizations have staged to raise awareness of a wide variety of cancers that affect different members of our community.

While a key part of this initiative was raising awareness about all types of cancer — it was also simultaneously intended to serve as an opportunity to highlight the amazing work done by all local healthcare workers. Lights FC and Comprehensive Cancer Centers partnered to provide free match tickets to all local healthcare workers to celebrate their commitment and excellence in caring for the Las Vegas Valley community.

Some highlights of the #KickCancer match program, and general event education programming at the game, included the following:

  • Players wearing special edition commemorative pink colored jerseys during the match.
  • Special recognition ceremony on-field at halftime for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.
  • Prominent over-sized inflatables intend to both raise awareness of specific types of cancers and to educate the public, including Colleen the Colon and an inflatable lung that fans at the game walked through upon entering the stadium.
  • Pink colored lines on the playing field, plus pink colored net on the soccer goals; and
  • 10-minute drone light show immediately following the match featuring #KickCancer imagery.

Measuring more than twelve feet wide and twelve feet tall, Colleen the Colon allows fans to walk through an (incredibly) oversized mockup of a human colon. The experience is meant to teach individuals about normal colon tissue, Crohn’s disease, polyps, malignant polyps, colon cancer and advanced colon cancer. Taking Colleen out to events is a part of Comprehensive’s ongoing efforts to educate the Las Vegas community about the benefits of screenings, self-care and early diagnoses for cancer.
