College Hockey Tournament
Comprehensive Cancer Centers was the official cancer center partner of the Fortress Invitational Hockey Tournament, a collegiate hockey tournament hosted by the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on January 3 and 4. The events provided the opportunity to share the stories of patients to inspire others in their journeys, while encouraging everyone to take charge of their personal health with self-testing and screenings through regular health exams.
“We were proud to sponsor and be part of the 2020 Fortress Invitational college hockey tournament,” said Jon Billstein, CEO at Comprehensive Cancer Centers. “Two of our patients got to drop the ceremonial puck before the start of the tournament each night which gave us the opportunity to share their stories to help educate others on the importance of prevention, early detection and research.”
The four-team tournament featured Army West Point, Cornell University, Ohio State University and Providence College.
Army West Point and Providence College faced off at 5pm on Friday followed by Ohio State and Cornell.
After the Vegas Golden Knights played the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, January 4th, the Fortress Invitational featured the consolation game, Army vs. Ohio State, and championship game, Providence vs Cornell, marking the first ever tripleheader of hockey in Las Vegas.
Comprehensive Cancer Centers first became involved in sponsoring college hockey in 2018 through a sponsorship of the Ice Vegas Invitational hockey tournament, part of the Coaches vs. Cancer program. The tournament featured some of the best collegiate hockey teams in the nation, including 5-time National Champion Boston College at T-Mobile Arena. Arizona State defeated Michigan Tech to win the tournament.
Comprehensive Cancer and Vegas Golden Knights
Comprehensive Cancer Centers is a proud partner of the Vegas Golden Knights, who hosted the tournament this year. The Golden Knight and Comprehensive announced a multi-year partnership between the hockey team and the oncology practice which includes video content featuring Comprehensive Cancer patients and the practice’s branding will be displayed at T-Mobile Arena.

Comprehensive Cancer Centers also participates in the pre-game festivities at Toshiba Plaza by offering free sunscreen and sunglasses to fans during select games
throughout the season.
Another collaboration between the Golden Knights and Comprehensive Cancer Centers took place on November 21, 2019, when the Golden Knights hosted the annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night. Two of Comprehensive Cancer Centers’ patient survivors were invited to attend the game and ring the rally siren before the first puck drop. The patients also met Alex Tuch and Shea Theodore after the game.
The oncology practice also established a player sponsorship of fan-favorite Pierre-Edouard Bellemare during the 2018-2019 season. This season, the team formalized a player endorsement with Golden Knight forward Alex Tuch. The practice will begin working with Golden Knight defenseman Shea Theodore, a testicular cancer survivor, to help spread his message of early detection and prevention.
