Greig Trout is a two-time cancer survivor who enjoys life to the fullest. At age 33, he refuses to let cancer slow him down, and has embarked on a worldwide journey known as “the anti-bucket list” to show fellow cancer patients and survivors that there’s so much to look forward to after cancer. After beating cancer a second time, he has traveled the world checking items off his list, and has no intention of slowing down any time soon.

At age 7, Trout was diagnosed with a stage 4 Wilms tumour,a cancer affecting the kidneys. He underwent both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and had his right kidney removed. In 2001, he was diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis, and was prescribed Warfarin for life. Then, after being cancer free for years, Trout was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 30, and underwent chemotherapy treatment and a colectomy.

Throughout his battle with cancer, Trout remained optimistic about his future. As he sat in the waiting room of a hospital in London, he came up with the idea for the “anti-bucket list.” Instead of planning a traditional bucket list, he planned a list of things to do when he beat cancer. In one interview, Trout says, “I thought it was time to inspire others to show them what is waiting for them when they survive.” Evidence of Trout’s positive outlook can be seen in his choice of words; he is very adamant about using the word “when,” not “if,” and encourages other cancer patients to do the same.

Recently, Trout launched his own website documenting his journey, sharing photos and video updates with his social media followers. While the list initially started with 50 ideas, it is quickly growing, thanks to idea contributions from fans.  Items on the list include sentimental items like “have an entire day where I don’t think about cancer” to more extreme activities like “climb a volcano.” Trout is living proof that cancer does not have to slow us down, and he is an inspiration to cancer patients everywhere.

Currently, Trout is traveling in South America, but has plans to visit the US soon. When Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada asked him about his plans for the US, he stated, “I’ve decided to make the US my next destination after South America. I’m still working out the logistics but I’d really like to travel across America and visit cancer centres as I go.” As for Las Vegas? “I’ve been lucky enough to go there before and I just love it. It’s like nowhere else in the world.” Although he’s been here before, he has hopes of returning in the future.
