EDUCATION
Valerie L. Chang received a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Portland State University, a Master of Medical Science in physician assistant studies from Midwestern University, and a Master of Science in oriental medicine from Wongu University.
EXPERIENCE
Valerie is a physician assistant (PA) at Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada where she provides oncology and hematology care and follow-up care to patients. Valerie began her career as a PA in 1999 at Pediatrics Associates of Yuma in Arizona. After moving to Las Vegas, she strengthened her PA experience working in various specialties including hematology and oncology at Las Vegas Cancer Center, nephrology at Kidney Specialists of Southern Nevada, urology under Dr. Sheldon Freedman, internal medicine at Southwest Medical Associates, and pain management at Desert Orthopedic Center. Valerie also took a sabbatical working as an acupuncturist at Las Vegas Integrative Medicine after obtaining her Oriental Medicine Doctor license, prior to joining Comprehensive Cancer Centers in 2024.
PATIENT PHILOSOPHY
Cancer not only affects the patient, but also the patient’s family and friends. I believe in empowering the patients and their loved ones with evidence-based medical treatments in helping the patients achieve the best clinical outcomes for their diseases, while treating them with compassion and respecting their dignity.
PERSONAL
Valerie was born and raised in Taiwan. She met her husband in a hiking group in Las Vegas. They have a son and a daughter. She and her family like to go hiking, camping, and visiting National Parks. Valerie also practices Yoga on a regular basis, and she likes to do Sudoku puzzles in her free time. Valerie is a native speaker of Mandarin and Taiwanese; she is also fluent in Spanish.
