PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION:
Dr. Thummala received her medical degree from Andhra University, India. During medical school she received several academic
awards, honors, university ranks and was adjudged "the best outgoing student" in her class. She joined the Mount Sinai-Elmhurst
Hospital Residency program in New York, where she was the best resident for two consecutive years and also served as the Chief
Resident in the Department of Medicine. She completed her fellowship training in Hematology and Oncology at the University of
Rochester in New York. During her fellowship, she was granted the Amgen Fellowship award, Empire State Grant and Cancer Action
grants for clinical and laboratory research.
EXPERIENCE:
Dr. Thummala joined Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada in February 2006. Previously, she was practicing in a single speciality
group in Texas. While practicing in Texas, she acted as the Physician Liaison appointed by the American College of Surgeons
Commission on Cancer and served on the Cancer Committee. She also worked as a Medical Director for a Hospice Program.
Dr. Thummala served as Chairman of the Quality Council and member of the Medical Executive Committee at Mountain View
Hospital. She is also a member of the Cancer Committee at Summerlin Hospital. Dr. Thummala received the prestigious Preceptor of
the Year award for 2007-2008 from the University of Nevada School of Medicine where she is involved with the resident teaching
program.
Dr. Thummala's research has focused on solid tumors and she has published a study on the treatment of hot flashes in women with
breast cancer. Dr. Thummala has extensive experience in the management of hematological malignancies and all types of cancers.
